Did you know that Saint Patrick's Day was made an official Christian holiday in the early 17th century? Though it has grown to be a nation wide celebration, it was once observed religiously by the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion, the Eastern Orthodox Church, and the Lutheran Church. What started as a commemoration of Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, is now widely used to celebrate the heritage and culture of the Irish in general. No matter how you celebrate, the color green is a big feature of the event because of Ireland’s nickname, The Emerald Isle, and the green stripe on the Irish flag.
The Denver St. Patrick's Day Parade will be lead by Dr. David Doc Powell this year. Doc has been an active member of the DSPDP since 1998. Over the years he has functioned in many roles for the Denver Parade including Parade Marshal’s Division Chairman, member Judge Committee, Queen Colleen Committee, and Board of Directors. One of the biggest titles from this event will be the 2022 Queen Colleen, Molly Casey. Molly is the reigning Miss Colorado All American Girl. She is a recent graduate from the University of Denver where she got her master’s degree in communication management.
